Who We Are

The Old Fort Mountain Heritage Alliance is made up of volunteers — residents, town officials and business owners — with an interest in Old Fort. We work for the greater good of beautifying and revitalizing downtown Old Fort and the Old Fort area, which spans beyond the borders of the town to include the western portion of McDowell County.

We strongly believe that revitalization of our small town can be accomplished by active volunteer involvement and a well-funded program focused on a four-point approach: Design, Organization, Promotion and Economic Restructuring. Physical compatibility of design will be accomplished by focusing on the renovation, rehabilitation and adaptive reuse of historic buildings, and on any new construction, providing a tangible link to our past while living in the present with an enlightened path to the future benefiting today’s and future generations. Our natural environment will be improved with the addition of a well-planned, streetscape and landscaping program accomplished through partnerships with the North Carolina Department of Transportation plus other types of government and/or non-profit organizations.
